Sewing Strips

12"x15"

Rayna Gillman's new book, Create Your Own Free Form Quilts came the day before Thanksgiving. I had a hard time baking my pies! I just wanted to play with strips. Rayna's book is fun to read as it makes me feel like we are just having a conversation. Have I done strip piecing before? Well yes, but this is a different way to approach it and I am having a ball. I have sort of been hanging on to my hand dyed or printed fabric--afraid to cut into them, but after I read what Rayna says about the great garage sale in the sky, I cut right into several of them. Big fun. So I made the piece in the photo (no title yet) and hand quilted it last night. I started sewing more strip sets this morning. Oh and printing some fabric.........

Some New Work

Here are a couple of pieces I have been working on. I tried some things that I haven't done before and I am not sure what I think. This time next week, I will probably be cutting them up! But they are moving in a direction I want to go. The untitled piece on the left is machine embroidery on pieced, painted and collaged canvas. The pink and black piece, Terra Incognita, is quilted and embroidered monoprints, arranged in overlapping panels. Both are attached to stretched canvases.

Crumb Blocks

I have been wanting to make some of these
Crumb Blocks
to use up my scraps.
It has been at least a year since I made a quilt
and I am not sure I want to make one now,
but at least I got my ironing board cleaned off,
my sewing machine uncovered
and my design wall cleared.
Now the fun part
Arranging the Blocks!
Should I use sashing?
