Down By The Riverside

I have been away. Have you forgotten me already?
I went to the Frio River which is true to it's name--very cold.
We usually go in August. The water is colder in September and so our time in the river was shorter, but still worth it. I took some projects with me, but I didn't do any of them. I just soaked in the river, got a little sunburn, ate lots of good food and visited with friends. Oh, and I also started reading a book that I found in the cabin, The Blue Nile by Alan Moorehead.

What a wonderful book. It is old and falling apart. It looks like it has been in some one's attic. I can't put it down. His descriptions are so good (but not overdone) that you are just there in Egypt or Ethiopia or the Sudan. He has also written The White Nile. That will be next on my list. At any rate, I had a vacation.

I didn't create a thing................

Beached

Beached
8.5" x 9.5"
Hand and de-constructed machine embroidery

I finally finished this embroidery. Miles and miles of chain stitch. If it was stretched out, how many times would it circle the globe? Only kidding of course, but I thought it would never end. I think it is finished, but I am not really sure. I intended to add further embroidery over the top. but now I am thinking it might be over-kill. I will look at it for a while and decide. If you have an opinion, let me know. I would be grateful...........

What I have been doing......

I know
You are saying, "What the heck is this? It is just a basket of yarn." Well, right. That is just what it is. This morning, it was a tube of knitting with double pointed needles on each end. I even had a split in the tube and a heel knitted in. I thought I would like knitting a tube and then putting in a heel, a toe, ribbing--wherever I felt like putting them. But it was a disappointing process. I worked on it for about a day and a half and this is what I have to show for it. I "frogged" it all this morning. What a waste of time. I could have been finishing the other socks I have in work. But then, I did learn something and perhaps I will try this method again. I still like it in theory but I am not anxious to do it again anytime soon.

Twisted

I have been doing a lot of hand sewing lately and I am totally frustrated by twisting threads. It seems I can only do a stitch or two before I have to stop and untwist the thread. Does that happen to you? I have tried all the usual "fixes" like bees wax, running the thread through my hair (no really. that is supposed to help), letting it hang free to untwist etc. You know the sort of thing. Yesterday, I saw a stray dryer sheet hanging out where it wasn't supposed to be. Hmm. A dryer sheet. Have I read about that? I tried that on the thread and it works great! Well better then anything else I have tried. You might try it if you are having problems with Twisting.

Fabric Design

Look at this! I sent this design off to Spoonflower ( the place where you can get your designs made into fabric) today to get a swatch. I am sort of excited to see what it looks like. Originally, I designed this as a quilt, but don't you think it would be a fun scarf?

Pink Hat

I finally finished beading the pink hat (it was originally a red Catholic school T-shirt). Did that take forever or what? Of course I didn't work on it night and day. I left it resting in the To Do tray for quite a while, but yesterday, I went to work and finished it. It's fun. Will I wear it?

August Bulletin Board

August Bulletin Board

What happened to August? It just flew by. I could have sworn I got nothing done! That is the main reason I like these collages--It reminds me that I DID actually do something this month......
