Basket Class

If you have followed this blog for very long, you know that I periodically take a basket class from my friend Jo Evans. Three or four of us spend the day learning to make a particular basket. This time, we made Nantucket Baskets. It is a 5" basket with a wooden bottom that is made over a mold. Using a mold was a new technique for us. Right away. I made a mistake and put in 42 spokes instead of 43 (I thought I had put in 43 but then I can't count!) Instead of taking out the spokes (which have to be evenly spaced) and starting over, I just worked on my 42 which meant I had to go over two and the end of each round. That gave me a spiraling line around the basket which I quite like. Hurray for the "happy accident". A side benefit is that the Gods won't be angry with me for making a perfect basket. Not that there is much chance of that!
