Sampler 3

This is my third "Sampler" for Karen Ruane's "Gathering". Sampler 1 and 2 are also posted in this blog. In fact, I think I will put the photos on this post as well. This one follows the same format--white cotton stitching on a vintage linen napkin. The leaf shapes are applied with Buttonhole stitch and then the backing is cut away. I think this one is less ecclesiastical then the others. This looks more like Russian nesting dolls or a 60's design of some sort. Each of these three embroideries are completely spontaneous. I have marked off a grid of sorts and the started stitching. It is very fun to do as it changes constantly.

Somehow the first one has always looked (in the photo) like the embroidered lines dimple in as if the lines that are sticking up from the surface were rather embossed into a surface. Cool that they all come out with different characters even though they are all white on white.
